Total Knee Replacement

case-study4December 2, 2013 :

We had a very interesting case in which a patient had a bilateral total knee replacement 5 years ago elsewhere. Post operative period was uneventful. The patient kept complaining of progressively increasing pain in the left knee for 6 months. No history of fever or trauma. On examination, the patient had range of motion of the knees from 0-70 degrees. Mediolateral laxity +, no distal neurovascular deficit. Procedure : Implant removal + Revision Total Knee Replacement with stem and wedge on the tibial side.

This patient has previously had a fracture of the hip in which the surgeon was operated elsewhere and a dynamic hip screw implant was used. However, this implant failed on the patient causing infection and a result a non union fracture with broken pins. A Uncemented Total Hip Replacement via transtrochanteric approach procedure was done. The patient has recovered well.

Knee Replacement

case-study3August 26th, 2013 :

Knee Replacement of a 63 year old lady had been suffering from pain in both the knees for the last 8 years. She also had difficulty in walking because of progressive deformity in both the knees. She could walk only few steps with the help of walker.
X-rays showed osteoarthritis of both the knees with severe varus deformity and bone loss of proximal tibia. In this patient, we managed using conventional implants along with bone grafting and screw fixation with a stem on the tibial side.
